How to connect with art in a more meaningful way
Hello lovelies! I hope you’re all having a fantastic day!
The topic I wanted to share with you this afternoon is one of creativity and how you can connect with artwork as a tool to invoke certain energies in your life. If you haven’t seen my most recent YouTube video of the painting I made be sure to watch it via this link- https://youtu.be/heBieBuLtw4 . You can watch along as I share my personal abstract art process! In the blog posts and videos to come I will share tips on creating your own personal art process. For today, I wanted to share some key factors to consider when purchasing and connecting with art in a way that will bring more meaning to your experience.
Art is a form of expression and can be used to invoke certain emotions and energies in other people. If you’re familiar with my channel I speak in depth about how we can work with energies in order to build the life we want! This is also true with artwork! When you are in close proximity to a piece of art you are merging with it energetically. In a sense, the art is sharing a specific energy which was channel by the artist when creating the piece (wether they are intentionally doing this or not). When you observe a painting or artwork you learn to make sense of it from your own point of view and can use your detective/intuitive skills to get a sense of what the artist was trying conveying. When looking at an art piece its nice to ask yourself the following questions:
What does this painting make me feel like?
What emotions does it invoke in me?
What was the artist thinking about when painting? (This can be done by scanning each area of the art piece)
What is the message the artist is trying to convey?
Do I recognize any use of symbols or symbology?
Where do I think was the first strokes on the canvas?
Where was the last stroke?
What energy is in the painting?
What emotions, thoughts, feelings, symbols or imagery come to me when observing the art?
Is the artist using strong strokes or light strokes or a combination?
What colours have they chosen? What do those colours symbolize?
All these questions help you to bond with the art work and explore more deeply what the artist is trying to convey. Art can be mysterious as well which is part of its allure. It’s almost as thought the artist is sharing a secret with you. A whisper in your ear.
When engaging with an art piece it’s important to allow it to change you on an energetic field. This is how you’ll get to know if you truly love a piece of art. The energy of the painting will without a doubt speak to you in subtle ways (intuitively speaking). It may bring up certain feelings, emotions, thoughts, memories from your own life or awaken something you are seeking to bring into your life!
These questions can also help you explore different ways of buying art. Remember that when you purchase an artwork you are taking a piece of the artist with you. Sharing art can be very vulnerable process for the artist as they are sharing a part of their subconscious mind - how they view the world, what they believe in and whatever they want to express. When creating a piece the artist will often times invoke certain emotions, thoughts and energy into a painting which you get to take home and bring into your life. It’s a very intimate process.
This is why it is important to be mindful of how the art makes you feel because you are bringing that energy into your personal space! It can be a very beautiful process to engage in. Purchasing art can be as much of an emotional process for you as it was for the artist (at least that's the hope). When looking to buy a piece or art I encourage you to explore the following:
What kind of energy would you like to bring into your life and home?
What colours represent those energies?
What kind of person is the artist? By choosing mindful artwork you are also supporting the artist at hand and I encourage all of you to get to know the artist in some way. Perhaps they have a blog, news articles or YouTube channel that share a bit about who they are and what they hope to inspire in the world.
How does the artwork make you feel? What memories, thoughts or emotions does it invoke in you?
Do you enjoy feeling those emotions, thoughts or feelings? Remember you are bringing this into your home and personal space. It’s important to know what kind of energy you want to invite into your home. You are in charge of that.
Does the artwork speak to your soul in any way?
Do you enjoy the artists energy?
Does the painting make you feel good, alive or inspired?
By asking these questions you can start to become more mindful and active in the art process. This then makes the experience much more personal and precious. Each art work has the potential the bring more love and light into the world. Therefor, I encourage all of you to engage with it in a mindful way and to support the local artists around you. Of course the aesthetic of an art piece is also important but I encourage that the main focus be on the senses/feelings/thoughts and energy that it awakens in you.
I hope you now feel inspired to connect with art in a new way. To see it as a magical process, because it is. Have fun with it and enjoy the entire process from start to finish!
