The art of homemaking

What is a homemaker and why am I considering it to be a form of art?

In my opinion, a homemaker is a curator of the home and plays an integral role in building the homes culture and atmosphere. It is a skill that can be acquired if we nurture it similarly to how we develop and learn the skills needed to paint a stunning tableau.

And so- homemaking, is an art. We must all learn the skills and techniques required to build a loving home that we can enjoy and one that invites others to partake in it. So let’s start by defining what that might look like.

What is the home and what does it mean to you?

Your definition of “home” may vary from someone else’s, depending on how you have experienced “home” in your life. I have loved ones who have travelled from country to country, exploring the world, having lived in multiple homes all over, and they view home as a restful place before the next adventure. I also have loved ones who have been in the same home from the moment they got married, have raised children there and now grow old together contemplating everything that their home has provided for them.

Home is a lot of things and takes on all the burdens of life- and let’s bless that! Our homes share life with us, they tell the tales of our children’s art hidden in the closet walls, and the times we have gathered with friends and loved ones sharing our life with one another. Home is a place where we come together to share the tales of the day, it’s a place to rest without your bra on and let our hair loose. For a large majority of us, home is where we experience the bulk of our life - and that’s something pretty incredible to consider. So- if we live the majority of our life, within the walls of our home, shouldn’t this place not be one of focus and love in mind?

My vote is yes- I choose to do what I can each day, to make home a place of love. A place where I can share life with family and friends. A place where comfort and warmth ooze out of it and where everyone feels like they have been cared for. And so what might that look like?

These are the types of conversations I hope to have with each of you moving forward on this blog. I want to deep dive into the art of homemaking and share my thoughts around the topic. I’ll be sharing what I enjoy about homemaking and what that looks like for me at this stage in my life, and the ups and downs that come along with it. Art is not perfected in one day, and nor is homemaking. I hope that the blogs to come help to inspire new homemaking skills in your life and that we can all come together to share the different experiences we are all have as homemakers. Together we will be exploring new topics like cleaning, cooking, home design and decor, art, DIYs, relationship building, parenting, finding work/life balance, organization, event planning, gardening and much more. Wether you’re a mother, father, single gal with no kids, single father with kids, an adult who doesn’t have children, wether your a young adult, or a busy professional, a business owner or if you work from home- homemaking is for everyone.
